Fitbit Versa, a 'smartwatch' that monitors the menstrual cycle

The Fitbit smart watch keeps track of activity and sleep, analyzes sports practice and even helps control the menstrual cycle

Do you have a smart watch? A wristband to monitor the activity? More and more people can respond affirmatively to one of these questions. And its number will continue to grow in the next few years if the forecasts are met: consultants such as  International Data Corporation (IDC) predict that the market for wearables (devices to carry positions) will double in 2021 to reach the figure of 240.1 million units around the world.

Of all the products that are part of the catalog of wearables , smartwatches or smartwatches are some of the most desired among users and firms such as Fitbit , a reference in the segment of activity monitoring, do not want to miss the train . His weapon for it is , a very attractive device for its price that also stands out for its beautiful design and its sporting functions, among other features.

Analysis and valuation

Fitbit Versa is a very attractive watch with the naked eye whose dimensions and, especially its reduced weight, make it very comfortable, regardless of the size of the wrist. With an exterior made of anodized aluminum and a square sphere with rounded corners, it has an LCD screen that provides an adequate tactile response and a level of brightness that ensures that it looks perfect even on sunny days. In addition, it is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent scratches and damage from accidental impacts.

We would have liked, that yes, that extended more towards the frames, that are too wide for the present tendencies.

Like other models, it allows to choose between different styles of strap to adapt it to the needs or personality of each one, although we have to say that the system to change them (through bolts and in a way similar to classic watches) is not very simple.

Operating system and functions

Compatible with iOS and Android, it works with its own operating system: Fitbit OS. Thanks to him it shows the notifications that are received in the mobile phone, although it does so with many limitations: it only notifies the calls, appointments of the calendar and text messages, and does not allow to respond.

As a monitoring device, the perspectives are much more positive and complete. Thus, it counts the daily steps, the kilometers traveled, the calories burned, the raised floors and the minutes of physical activity, while it automatically monitors sleep, also recording the heart rate throughout the day.

It also has alarm and a system of relaxation through breathing that we had seen in previous models of the firm.

It even helps to keep track of sports practice. In this way, and once the exercise is chosen - it offers seven modes, although others can be added: running, cycling, swimming, running on a treadmill, weight training, HIIT training or training - it is launched to show the heart rate in real time , the rhythm, the distance traveled, the time of the activity ...

What do we miss? The absence of integrated GPS to record the route on a map without having to resort to the mobile phone.

Yes we can use it to swim, since it is submersible up to 50 meters deep, or resort to guided training with the Fitbit Coach function (installed as standard and with annual subscription). In addition, while doing sports we can listen to music from the smartwatch itself as long as we have saved it before in its internal memory of 2.5 GB

Monitoring of the menstrual cycle and other characteristics

All the data of the daily activity or sports practice are shown on the clock face while synchronizing with the app installed on the smartphone , which allows sharing statistics and comparing them with the average of the population of the same age range and sex.

We would like to stop in one of its functions, since it is not among the usual in the apps of other models. This is a female health monitoring assistant designed to help understand the connection between the menstrual cycle and health and keep a detailed record of what happens every day of the month.

To activate it, it is necessary to access the section "feminine health" in the application and complete some information related to the contraceptive cycle or methods used. Then, an interface is accessed showing the forecast of when the next period will be and the fertile days, and in which it is also possible to include data and symptoms (headache, acne, cramps ...) or analyze trends of our body.

What does it contribute with respect to similar applications that are already on the market? The possibility of comparing information with physical data or contacting groups of women from the Fitbit community to share questions or advice.
