Spanish people want big mobile screens
Eight out of ten phones sold this year have a screen greater than 5 inches
Spanish consumers have it clear, they like big mobile phones. At least that is how it emerges from the study of Kantar Spain, where they analyze the smartphones bought by Spain in recent months.
84% of the Spanish devices sold in 2017 have a screen above 5 inches, while two years ago they only took half of the sales. In addition, this report indicates that the Spanish are from Samsung, which is positioned as the best-selling brand in the country, with 26.6 percent market share in the third quarter of 2017
Specifically, Samsung Galaxy J5 is the best selling terminal, followed by Samsung J3 and Huawei P8 Lite. A Xiaomi, Redmi Note 4, sneaks into the list as the eighth best-selling smartphone while the iPhone 7 is in fifth position.
Xiaomi has managed to reach in the 'Top 5' of best-selling brands, with a 9 percent market share, behind the Spanish BQ (9.3%) and Apple. The latter, as reflected in the Kantar data, has a market share of 10.5 percent in the last quarter of the year. Samsung (26.6%) and Huawei and its Honor brand (19%), occupy the first and second place, respectively.
Also, smartphone users in Spain prefer mid-range devices, where brands such as Huawei or Xiaomi or BQ are found. This is also reflected in the list of top-selling devices, with the Samsung Galaxy J5 and J3 in first positions. Currently, an average of 237 euros is paid for a smartphone, a figure that grows by 61 euros with respect to the 2015 data.
The presence of mid-range devices in the market allows, as explained in the report, to democratize access to the smartphone. That is, the brands offer terminals with similar characteristics to their flagship 'ships' at a much lower price.
