Twitter prohibits publications with threats and the use of images that incite hatred

The measure gives continuity to the suppression of verification of those profiles that disseminate an intolerant discourse, which the company began last November

Twitter has implemented on Monday new rules of use of its platform, with which the social network seeks to end publications of violent content against a person or a group of people, as well as images, symbols and names that incite or express hate.

The platform of 'microblogging' has implemented this December 18 the update of its rules, which incorporates two new regulations that expand their specific sections on violence and incitement to hatred through their publications. This measure gives continuity to the suppression of the verification of those profiles that disseminate an intolerant discourse, which Twitter began last November.

Thus, the new rules of use of the social network specify that its users can not make "specific threats of violence" or express the wish that a person or a group of people "suffer physical damage, illness or death", among other things. which includes "threatening acts of terrorism or promoting terrorism."

Twitter will also not allow the presence among its users of people affiliated with organizations that "use or encourage violence against civilians to benefit their causes", both on or off the platform.

Similarly, the social network does not allow from Monday the use of images or symbols "incitement to hate" both in the photograph and in the header of the profile. In addition, the user name, visible name or biography may not be used to "engage in abusive behavior" such as conducting targeted harassment or expressing hatred against a person, group or protected category. Twitter advanced these changes on November 17, through a publication of its Security account.
